News from the Exmoor Pony Centre

We held a series of Cream Tea Afternoons which many visitors attended and enjoyed various craft activities as well as pony rides, grooming and of course delicious refreshments. We were lucky enough to have Victoria Eveleigh in attendance on two days and she was surrounded by crowds of children who love her books and wanted her to sign them. On other days we also welcomed many visitors, both local people and newcomers to the area, all of whom were delighted to meet our ponies up close and learn more about them.

Some of the Exmoor Pony Festival events were held in conjunction with the Centre, the first of which was a chance to get to know the Anchor Herd thanks to Emma and David Wallace who gave a comprehensive tour of their ponies as well as a demonstration of showing. Kestra and a pony attended the Pony Walk on North Hill with ENP Ranger Richard Eales and we had a stall at Exford Show as usual. The Quiz and BBQ evening was a great success though Mr Baker must have got wet tending the BBQ while the rest of us were enjoying the challenging questions. To end the week a group of seven ponies and riders left the Centre to join the Fun Ride and had a great time. Many thanks to all those who came along, helped and /or contributed in any way.

On Thursday 30th October we will be holding our Celebrate Halloween event from 1:00 till 4:00 pm so please put it in your diaries and come along and join in the fun. But there is no need to wait that long to visit us, the Centre is open from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm every day except Saturdays and there is no charge to visit.

Staff will be taking a quiet, calm pony up to the Horse Of the Year Show in October to spread the word about our local endangered breed and encourage people to support the charity. Meanwhile we are getting ready for taking in foals in November by starting with a couple of young fillies before the rush; there will be the opportunity to join us for some foal handling instruction so if this would interest you, please call on 01398 323093 to reserve a place.

We have beautiful calendars for next year available to purchase as well as many other lovely gifts so do come along and have a look in our shop as well as visiting our ponies. Alternatively please look online and support us via our website moorlandmousietrust.org.uk or by texting MMTX22 £5 to 70070.

Thank you

  1. Fantastic to read of all the on-going activity at the unique Exmoor Pony Centre.....If you can get to any of the Centre's Events you will have a great time - and their new Calendar is absolutely brilliant. When I visited there recently one of the things that really striked home to me was the commitment and dedication of everyone. I can only imagine what an amazing experience it will be for those able to take part in the Foal Handling instruction - what a great opportunity.....
